Eleven days, four cities, every night booked and every move between them planned: from Bangalore via Delhi into Tashkent, west to Khiva, then back east by road and fast train through Bukhara and Samarkand.

How the route fits together

Khiva is at the far western end of the country, so the route flies there early and then works back east over land. Tashkent comes twice — one night on arrival, two at the end — because it is where the international flights are.

Getting to Khiva

Khiva has no airport of its own; flights for it land at Urgench, a short drive away. The Tashkent–Urgench flight in this plan leaves at 20:25 and lands at 21:55, so the first evening in Khiva is a late arrival — worth knowing when you choose where to stay.

In the planner, the Khiva stay carries Urgench’s airport code, UGC. That is how it knows the flight to Urgench is the flight to Khiva. Without it, it would tell you nothing was booked to get you there.

Khiva to Bukhara by road

By cab or hired car: the plan leaves Khiva at two in the afternoon and reaches Bukhara at seven. Plan for most of a day on the road.

The Afrosiyob fast trains

Bukhara to Samarkand and Samarkand back to Tashkent are both on Afrosiyob, Uzbekistan’s high-speed service — 15:50 to 17:33 for the first and 17:39 to 20:12 for the second in this plan. Both leave in the afternoon, which keeps the morning free in the city you are leaving.
